KARATE BEGINS AND ENDS WITH REI

·         Bow when you enter and leave the dojo

·         Remove shoes before entering the dojo.

·         Never leave the dojo without permission.

·         Remove your watch and all jewelry before practice begins.

·      Be on time for class and help clean the dojo before    training begins.

·         Address your instructor as 'Sensei' when you are in the dojo.

·         Answer with 'OSS' when given instructions or advice by your sensei.

·         If you are late, you should enter the dojo quietly, warm up and wait at the back of the class until you are invited by the instructor to join in.

·         Keep finger and toe nails cut short to avoid injury to others.

·         No food or beverages (other than water) are permitted in the dojo during class.

·         Sit in seiza or cross-legged, do not lean against the walls or sit with your legs out stretched.

·         No unnecessary talking during class.

·         While Sensei is speaking, do not:

o   talk or fool around

o   stand with your arms folded

o   stand with your hands on your hips or behind your back

o   have your hands together in front of your lap.

·         Bow and turn your back if you have to adjust your Gi or tie your belt.

·         Visitors should sit quietly at the back of the dojo.

The rei (bow) in traditional karate is done only as a sign of respect and as a greeting and should not to be interpreted as any religious custom.
